Art cannot be unseen. We carry it with us throughout our lifetimes.

Working mostly in acrylics and mixed media, I explore colour as well as the medium I use in my paintings. I am interested in the journey of each piece, expressing myself through layers and layers of paint, manipulating how it moves and how it is applied is as exciting to me as the finished painting. My work ranges from abstract to representational but I am most interested in combining the two. The outcome entirely depends on the evolution of the pieces as I work on them, creating and playing with colour, using unconventional tools such as bowl scrapers, forks, and chopsticks to make marks and apply the paint and scraping the paint away to reveal hints of the layers hidden below. I prefer to work on wood panels so I can really dig deep with my paint scrapers. There is something very satisfying about digging and scratching into the paint, so I prefer painting on sturdy wood panels instead of canvas.

I am deeply influenced and inspired by the great outdoors; the Canadian wilderness often appears in my work either abstractly using colour and texture or representationally. I have had the intense pleasure of hiking amazing trails throughout Ontario, but the breathtaking turquoise waters and rugged terrain of Lake Superior are forever imprinted on my heart. I am also very intrigued by urban landscapes and architecture from trips I have taken to far away cities and hidden gems found closer to home. Sometimes I am struck by the shape of a building or the composition and colours of an old poster window outside of an arena and I just have to paint it.
